India Responds to Iran Supreme Leader's Comments on Minorities: "Unacceptable and Misinformed"

New Delhi, India — India has condemned remarks made by Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, regarding the treatment of Muslims in India. In a recent statement on X (formerly Twitter), Khamenei compared the plight of Indian Muslims to those in Gaza, Myanmar, and other regions.

India's Foreign Ministry has labeled the comments as “unacceptable” and “misinformed,” emphasizing that countries should address their own human rights records before criticizing others. “We strongly deplore the Supreme Leader of Iran's remarks about minorities in India,” the Ministry stated.

Khamenei's comments, posted on the birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammed, included a call for solidarity among Muslims worldwide, highlighting suffering in regions like #Myanmar, #Gaza, and #India. “We cannot consider ourselves true Muslims if we ignore the suffering of our brethren in these places,” Khamenei wrote.

These remarks come amid rising tensions between Iran and Israel, a situation that has caused concern in New Delhi. India maintains a strategic relationship with both nations, with West Asia supplying 80% of its oil and Israel playing a crucial role in defense and security.

Furthermore, India and Iran share mutual interests, such as concerns about terrorism from Pakistan and Afghanistan and cooperation on the Chabahar port project. India also stands in solidarity with Israel following recent terrorist attacks, reflecting a shared commitment to counter-terrorism efforts.
